The Beaches of Santa Cruz County- Santa Cruz, California

Santa Cruz beach.jpgThe Beaches of Santa Cruz County - Santa Cruz, California

Grab your surfboard and enjoy the breaking waves that pound the shores of Santa Cruz.  As you hit the surf you will be able to show your skills off to the people enjoying the sandy beaches. The mix of the people that are on the beach runs from other surfers to families with children playing in the sand.

When you are done with the sun worshiping or the surf goes down to calm, you may want to go on a cruise to watch the whales.  These magnificent species are beautiful and powerful and a joy to watch as they breach the crest of the water and blow out their hole.  Well worth taking the time see.

Perhaps you would like to take a stroll through the Wetlands of Watsonville and listen to the guide tell you about the variety of birds that make that area their home.  Or maybe you want to see the largest elephant seal breeding grounds in North America.

If you are an eco-traveler you will truly enjoy Santa Cruz.  The whole county is engaged in taking care of the environment.  Visit the undisturbed natural areas and scenic vistas and observe the plants and the wildlife.

While in the community you may be luck enough to be there when gray whales migrate through Santa Cruz County’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.  The whales leave their home in the arctic to make the 12,000 mile round trip journey south to the warmer waters off Baja California where they mate and nurse their young.  You can get a wonderful view of these fabulous creatures from the rugged cliffs of Davenport.  If you are the brave of heart you may want to take a boat or kayak out to watch the whales and see the spy dolphins, jellyfish, and sea otters and coastal birds as well as the whales.  What a wonderful experience to enjoy!
