Spend a Day at the Rosicrucian Park in San Jose, California
The Rosicrucian Park in San Jose, California is a terrific place to spend a day relaxing and exploring some very unique attractions. The Park is the headquarters of the Union of Rosicrucians of international freemasonry. You can learn as much or as little as you like about this ancient movement while you enjoy touring this beautiful Park.
Beautiful gardens, statuary and fountains and Egyptian and Moorish architecture create a very unique and peaceful atmosphere at the Rosicrucian Park. The Planetarium and Egyptian Museum on site are two popular attractions at the Park.
The Planetarium building at the Rosicrucian Park is a beautiful Moorish style structure. In the lobby of the building you can see a Foucault Pendulum, and Planetarium shows are featured daily. A show presenting a fascinating theory related to the mysterious iconography of the ancient Roman “mystery religion” Mithraism is currently featured at the Planetarium.
Visitors can see an impressive collection of Egyptian, Assyrian and Babylonian art at the Egyptian Museum at the Rosicrucian Park. Highlights of the art gallery include hieroglyphs, sculptures, fountains and lotus columns.
There are four galleries of exhibits to explore at the Egyptian Museum. The first is entitled The Afterlife, and it includes two authentic mummies. You will also learn about an unexpected surprise that was revealed when a third, baboon mummy was X-rayed. A coffin, funerary boat and other Egyptian artifacts are included in this exhibit, as well.
Another intriguing exhibit at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is the composite replica of an Egyptian stone tomb. The tomb reflects details of authentic stone tombs dating from approximately 2100 to 1100 BC. The tomb is covered in hieroglyphs and includes displays in two rooms at different levels, including a burial room.
During the tomb tour, you will see paintings depicting scenes of everyday life at the entrance to the burial chamber. There is also an entire gallery at the Egyptian Museum focusing on daily life and trade in ancient Egypt. A wide variety of artifacts are displayed in this exhibit. Other exhibits at the Museum focus on Kingship and Religion, and Shrines of Sekhmet and Aten.
Currently there is a special educational art exhibit at the Rosicrucian Park Egyptian Museum exploring the mysterious decline in pollinators throughout the world. Traveling exhibits visit the Museum regularly, and special events related to ancient Egypt are regularly scheduled as well.
In addition to the Planetarium and Egyptian Museum, another attraction you may wish to visit at the Rosicrucian Park is the Research Library. The Rosicrucian Research Library contains books related to Rosicrucian studies, including some very rare books. After your research, you can enjoy relaxing or take some time for prayer or meditation in the beautiful Peace Garden at the Park.
