Morro Bay, California is home to an annual festival designed to pay tribute to coastal life. The goal is raise awareness about the value of Morro Bay and the local environment while also having a great time. This year will mark the 25th annual event, with the festival scheduled for October 7-8 in 2006, and is always held on the first full weekend of October each year. The Morro Bay Harbor Festival is an all-day event from 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening. Morro Bay is located in San Luis Obispo County, which is part of Central California.
Ticket prices for admission are very reasonable; with adults paying $7 and children ages 6-12 $2. Children under 6 are free, and the Festival after Dark, which is held on October 7th from 4-9 p.m., is also free to everyone and is in Olde Town Morro Bay. Parking is free, which is a definite perk! There are also lots of shuttles that travel regularly from various parking lots.
With over 30,000 people attending the Morro Bay Harbor Festival, it has plenty of food, activities and entertainment for everyone. One of the best things to do is to go to the Seafood Faire and Wine Tasting Pavilion. It features fantastic seafood and wine tasting from the top wineries in the county. Visitors can also enjoy sampling various microbrew specialties at the Rocktoberfest while enjoying live music, including Jazz, Blues, Folk music and various other types of music, as well.
The Morro Bay Harbor Festival is a family-friendly event, with lots of things for the kids to do. They can participate in the Carnival Cove Treasure Map activity, a raingutter regatta, fascinating maritime exhibits and hands on activities, rock wall climbing and much more.
The whole family can enjoy talking with the Coast Guard and Harbor Patrol, and watch as an enormous sand sculpture is created. There is a chowder contest, and the opportunity to browse booths by local vendors and exhibitors. Families can drop by the Museum of Natural History, enjoy a round of golf or visit nearby Hearst Castle. There are plenty of things to see and do in the area during the Morro Bay Harbor Festival.
