Honey Run Covered Bridge - Chico, California

Honey Run Covered Bridge - Chico, California.jpgHoney Run Covered Bridge - Chico, California

This 1886 (completed in January of 1887) three span covered bridge is the only known three span covered bridge in the United States. The spans were built in sections of 30 ft., 130 ft, and 80 ft for a total of 240 ft.. At the time it was first opened for traffic it was not covered.

Because it is a treasure to the area it has been preserved and is now used only for pedestrian traffic.

Thanks to Jeffrey Sinnock, a professional photographer, for sending us the interior shot of the bridge.  We appreciate his talent and willingness to share it with our readers!

I used to live near here. My family owns the land on the hill across from the entrance of this bridge and most of the area formally known as DiamondVille. This bride was nearly lost several times over the years due to flooding. It has also been featured in many movies, music videos, and a few television shows. It is known locally as a place to propose to your sweety. You can no longer fully cross the bridge as there is a gate on the back end of it. If you cross the creek and go up behind it, you can still see wagon tracks from the stage coaches and wagon haulers that ran between Chico and the mountain communities. It is a nice place to take a dip during the 100+ degree summer days in the area or to have a picnic lunch in the shade of the spans. If you have not been there, go see it. It is worth the five mile drive up into the canyon, the views along the way are so pretty, especially in the fall. Just beware of snakes known to lurk in the cooler areas in the shade.

Got something to say?
