Preserving the physical aspects and atmosphere of Pacific Coast railroading during the 1910 – 1960 eras is the goal of this organization. They use historic railroad equipment and standard railroad practices for train crews, signaling, block operations, and equipment maintenance. All this to give the visitors a fabulous trip back in railroad history!

Take a ride on the historic Niles Canyon Railway. Currently, the Pacific Locomotive Association’s Niles Canyon Railway provides historic train ride experiences to the public year around from the 1880’s depot in Sunol and from Niles Station in Fremont, California.

The Pacific Locomotive Association also has railroad artifacts on display and interpretive educational exhibits at the Sunol Depot and at the Niles Deport Museum in Fremont.

The Niles Canyon Railway is constantly under construction, they would welcome you to become part of their group to continue the tradition of the trains for years to come.

The museum has steam engines, diesel engines, motor cars, a caboose, passenger cars and freight cars for all to enjoy. The collection was begun in the early 1960’s and with the assistance of the Union Pacific Railroad, January 2005 saw almost all of the collection come together at the Niles Canyon Railway.

The operating days for 2008 run from January through October. There are no scheduled trains running in November or December. Be sure to call for information on when you will be able to take a ride!!

Location: To Niles Station, 37001 Mission Blvd. from K-880 Fremont: Exit onto Mowry Ave., continue NE toward the hills to Mowry end, turn left at the light onto Mission Blvd, Continue three blocks west to Sullivan and then turn left to the deport parking lot.

To Sunol Depot, 6 Kilkare Rd., form I-680 Pleasanton: Exit onto Hwy 84 west, for west one mile to Sunol, turn right onto Main St. and continue on Main pat Kilkare Rd. Sunol Depot is on the right.
