Carmel-By-The-Sea.jpgCarmel-By-The-Sea – For the Artistic and Active Types

Artistic folks, as well as active folks, will feel quite comfortable visiting Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. There are no streetlights or sidewalks in the residential areas, and some of the homes are missing street addresses. Many artists call this area home, which accounts for the many art galleries that are found in the area. Scuba diving and golfing are also popular activities of the residents of Carmel-By-The-Sea. If you’re an artsy type of person that likes to relax by doing, this is the place for you.

One of the local art galleries, Savage Stephens Contemporary Art Works, only includes contemporary art. There are absolutely no beach scenes, florals, or landscapes to be found here. Yet the media of this art is varied, as oils and acrylics are used, along with etchings, drawings, sculptures, etc. Savage Stephens is located on Dolores between 5th and 6th streets. Remember, many areas here have no addresses! For something slightly different, you may want to try Zantman Art Galleries. The Gallery holds monthly events where visitors can view an artist’s collection, and meet him or her as well. This gallery is located on 6th and Mission.

Perhaps you’d like to acquaint yourself with Carmel-By-The-Sea as a whole. On Carmel Walks, visitors walk over and through pathways, gardens, courtyards, and even artists’ and movie stars’ homes. Carmel-By-The-Sea has lots of history that is just waiting to be discovered by you. Some of the features of this walk include architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright and one-time mayor of Carmel Clint Eastwood’s pub. You can also see where Doris Day keeps her dogs. This tour is available on Saturdays at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and Tuesday through Friday at 10:00 AM. The cost of the Carmel Walks tour is $25 per person.

Water activities abound in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. Skilled beach divers are encouraged to try their luck at Monastery Beach, also known as San Jose Creek Beach, a popular site for scuba diving. The weather changes here often, so layered clothing is advisable. Scuba diving is also allowed at Point Lobos State Reserve, as are guided walks and picnicking. These same activities can be found at Punta de los Lobos Marino, an area that features rare plants, endangered archaeological sites, and one-of-a-kind geological sites.

Golfing legends have been made at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, and you could be the next one! This golfing resort is often described as “the greatest meeting of land, sea, and sky.” Along with a pro shop, there is also a golf academy on site to help you get even closer to becoming that legend you have dreamed of. At Pebble Beach you will also find lodging and many fine dining experience opportunities. For when you just want to unwind after a grueling 18 holes, there’s also a spa to treat yourself well.
