Do you want to go on a safari but don’t have the time to go to Africa?  Here, at Safari West, you can see the animals, get up close to them and never leave the states.  There are over 500 individual animals at the location for your pleasure.  The mammal, bird, and reptile collection has over 100 different species from Africa and other points around the world.

The mammal species are native to Africa and represent omnivores, herbivores, and carnivores. The birds’ species of Safari West are native to many continents and countries such as Africa, South America, Papua New Guinea, and even the United States.

There are antelope, Barbary sheep, Watusi, cheetah, gazelle, giraffes, impalas, zebras, warthogs, and hundreds of others for you to see.

Safari West is on 400 acres in the heart of California’s wine country.  It is not a zoo or a drive-through park, it IS a wildlife preserve for the animals to live in a natural habitat.  The safari was begin in 1989 with the purpose of preservation through breeding, education, research and public interaction.

The focus of the safari is to preserve wildlife by propagation of endangered species. Safari West has a conservation program in place for two species of Saharan Desert antelope that are now extinct in the wild.  They also focus on raising awareness of the exotic animals through in-person contact.

Tours: Adults and Teens $65; Children 3-12 $30; Infants 1-2 $10

There are no pets allowed with the exception of a service animal.  Do NOT leave your pet in the car, make arrangements for them to be safely taken care of while you are gone.

You will not be allowed to pet or feed the animals, that is for the safety of you and the animal.

The cost of keeping Safari West operational is not inexpensive.  It costs Safari West over $500 a day to care for all our animals. That includes food, supplies, veterinary care and staff training and enrichment activities.

If you take a tour you will spend an unforgettable morning or afternoon on safari with your knowledgeable guide and your fellow safari adventurers in an open air jeep style vehicle tracking and learning about exotic and endangered wildlife including African Cape Buffalo, Springbok, Eland, Damara Zebra, Scimitar Horned Oryx, Addax, Red Lechwe, and Blue Wildebeest. If you’re lucky, you could look a giraffe in the eye! The tour either ends or begins with a walk on the lower premises of Safari West where your guide will introduce you to African cheetahs, lemurs, and giant porcupines, among others.

The tour packages are by reservation only.

There are lodging accommodations should you choose to stay at Safari West.  Call for reservations and inquiries.
