Searching for reasonable Los Angeles airfare gives you a number of options; you can fly into Los Angeles directly (LAX) which is the area’s largest, and busiest, airport. It is on the coast, west of downtown.
Long Beach is south of LAX and convenient for the city of Long Beach and South Bay. Since it is a smaller airport it isn’t as busy as LAX and so may be more appealing to you if this is the area of the city you are planning to visit.

Sometime there are specials to one airport that do not flow through to the others and you may be able to find a better rate, even if it means you are a little further away from your destination, your car rental can be from any airport so check rates.
Los Angeles spreads over 34,149 square miles with the different things to do in the city spread all over. Some of them are as much as 60 miles apart and yet are still in the city.
