Gainey Vineyard - Santa Ynez Valley California
Just a short thirty-five mile drive north of Santa Barbara is Gainey Vineyard, located in the gorgeous Santa Ynez Valley. Located at 3950 East Highway 246, this vineyard is a must-see stop for anyone who has ever wondered about how wine is made. The Gainey family has been making wine here for over forty years, and they are happy to show people the mysterious process of turning simple grapes into delicious, award-winning wine.
The Gainey Vineyard has become one of the best vineyards to visit according to some of the best wine lover’s publications. The vineyard has land in both the warm, eastern part of the Santa Ynez valley which produces excellent Bordeaux wines, and the cooler western part of the valley that produces fine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. The winery tour and tasting room are an excellent way to spend the day or just an afternoon, or to take in one of the many events that are hosted by the Gainey Vineyard.
Winery tours and the wine tasting room are open every day. The wine tasting room is a beautiful Spanish style room where guests can sample a variety of wines from the Gainey Vineyard. The wine tasting room is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost for tasting is $10, and this price includes a souvenir wine glass with the Gainey Vineyard logo on it. There are also outdoor picnic tables in the vineyard garden where guests can go to enjoy the scenery and drink their wine.
Winery tours are also available daily at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. For groups of ten or more, reservations are required. This winery tour gives guests a chance to get a very detailed and in-depth look at the wine making process.
The Gainey Vineyard also offers a wide array of other activities, as well. For instance, during the summer months, there are concerts held in their gorgeous courtyard surrounded by views of the vineyard and the mountains. The concerts include a variety of performers, and the tickets for these performances average between $36-$50. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, and seating for the concerts is available at 5:30 PM. There is also limited selection seating, which offers guests a chance to have a wine tasting session with the owner, Daniel Gainer, front row seating for the concert, and dessert and coffee after the performance.
Other activities at the Gainey Vineyard include delicious winemaking dinners with renowned chefs, cooking classes, and an annual Crush Party in September to celebrate the year’s harvest, with authentic Santa Ynez barbeque, festivities, music and fun. The Gainey Vineyard is also available for private events such as weddings, barbeques, and other parties. The grounds offer a variety of attractive locations that would be the perfect backdrop to a wedding.
Enjoy the world of wine making in the Santa Ynez Valley at the Gainey Vineyard as it is worth the trip.
