Children’s Hands-On Museum – San Bernardino, California
When the Easter Seals Society saw a need for a special place for children to learn and grow, they took action and opened a museum in 1989 designed especially for kids.
This inter-active museum has a wide range of things for kids to do, while having fun and learning. It is a place where both children and their parents can work on things together for fun and learning. Just visualize your child painting your face in the face painting area that could be a true time of laughter and bonding!
Maybe your child wants to be a fireman or a police officer for a little while, the museum has costumes for preschoolers through fifth-graders to dress up in, every child likes to play dress up!
They can get exposed to an incubator, X-ray machine, crutches, braces and wheelchairs. There are puppet shows, a “shadow theater” and live birds, turtles and guinea pigs to pet.
The museum is designed where children with disabilities can play right along side of children without disabilities and not have a noticeable difference is what they can do!
There is a toddlers’ area to give the little ones their space too, there are toys, a small screen TV to listen and/or watch interactive videos. There is also a large selection of fun and educational tapes.
There are computers with plenty of games for the kids to play with the supervision of their folks, although great care is taken with the selection of the games there is always the possibility of parents wanting to direct their children in a different direction than the games the kids may choose on their own. Most of the kids enjoy the Sponge Bob Square Pants, Dora the Explorer and Finding Nemo, it’s great to have the opportunity to use their imagination while playing these games.
The X-box is another area that the kids enjoy, it is so much fun to race a car, play basketball and football and again, let their imaginations fly!
Books, the type that you actually hold in your hand, turn the pages of and read are available too. Teaching a child to love to read, to spend time in the world of books will take them to new heights their whole lives, what a gift!
