Sutter Gold Mine - Amador City, California
Sutter Gold Mine -
What an exciting opportunity to go underground and see what gold mining was like in the 1980’s when the mine was opened. Now, it is just for tours to show visitors what it takes to go deep into the ground day after day digging for gold.
This is a modern hard rock mine. Sutter Gold Mine offers a comprehensive look into the gold mining process and its historical progression from gold panning and hydraulic mining to hard rock techniques.
Above ground there is an opportunity for gemstone mining at the mining flumes. Everyone is guaranteed to find some real gemstones. You can also try the geode cracking which is popular with everyone.
The tour is approximately 1 hour when walking. It begins with gearing up in hard-hats and tagging in, then stepping aboard the Boss Buggy Shuttle for a historic journey deep underground. You will learn to distinguish between real gold deposits and pyrite (known as Fools Gold.)
