Shasta Cascade – Mount Shasta, California

Winter is a beautiful time at Shasta Cascade where the snow covered Mt. Shasta stands 14,162 feet above the earth and is visible for more than 100 miles.

The skiing is ideal with the daring downhill slopes.  Bundle up you gear and head for the time of your life!  Not only is the skiing fabulous but the snow-cloaked hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles in Lassen Volcanic National Park will make the trip different and more enjoyable than any you have taken for skiing before.

Take a day off from skiing and take a dogsled ride.  You can get a one hour ride through snowy backcountry and see Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen and Castle Crags in a manner that you never would have believed possible.

Maybe you want to go to the backcountry and try skiing there or maybe snowboarding.  For this you will need a guide to choose the best routes and slopes.  They know the conditions and risks and will escort you on a wonderful experience.

Visit Lassen Volcanic National Park where most of the park’s roads are closed during most of the winter, but the park plows the road 1 mile past the southwest entrance to the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center where you can grab some snowshoes and a ranger will take you on a guided walk.  Perhaps you are a cross-country skier and you want to just take off and enjoy the beauty of the area.

There is a snow play area near the visitors center for tobogganing, sledding and snowboarding so all ages will have the opportunity to have a really great time.

  1. It's late March now, and that means you can double up on activities: skiing at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park or up on the mountain, and then a spring bike ride on our quiet roads. It's also time to think about spring rafting trips on the Upper Sacramento River and the big adventure rivers - the Cal Salmon and Scott Rivers where class IV and V rapids will have your heart pounding all day long. Castle Crags is now the place to go hiking to spring waterfalls and early wildflowers. It' a glorious time, so come see us!
