There are thousands of wineries in California, way too many to list individually so I have asked the owners of a great site - www.winecountrygetaway.com to allow me to place their site in conjunction with ours to provide you with a wide range of places to visit with insider information on what their thoughts are and to give you suggestions.
While I was trying to find what I considered to be the best site for information this particular site seemed to fit the need best. It is done with taste, creativity and personal experience. The Sierra Nevada House has its roots in the early gold mining days, when John Sutter first built a small fort where the Sacramento and American Rivers meet. The year was 1839, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains were considered a wild area, and the home of the Miwok and Maidu Indians. John Sutter was a Swiss pioneer who would change the history of the area with his discovery of gold.
Located between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe is Placerville, California. It is accessible from both Highway 49 and Highway 50. An historic gold rush town of the Old West, Placerville is a gorgeous small town that thrives on a diverse economy, including the tourists that flock to the area. Placerville is named for the placer gold deposits that were found in the nearby river during the 1848 gold rush.
