The Heidrick Ag History Center - Woodland, California

The Heidrick Ag History Center.jpgThe Heidrick Ag History Center - Woodland, California

This center introduces visitors to the marvels of agriculture, and commercial trucking with one of a kind exhibit featuring the latest in museum and attraction technologies.

Once of the most interesting part of the display is the Fred. C. Heidrick Antique Ag Collection, the world’s largest and most unique collection of one-of-a-kind antique agricultural equipment and the Hays Antique Truck Museum, also recognized as the largest of its kind in the world.

The museum houses agricultural equipment from the late 1800’s through the middle of the last century.  There is a Deering Reaper from 1890, one of the first mechanical pieces of equipment used in the harvesting of grain.  There is the Little Giant Mounted Thresher from 1891.  Over 100 years old this piece of equipment was used to separate the grain from the straw.  The Deere Triumph Wagon Late from 1800’s hauled bulk grain from the harvester to the grainery.  It was pulled by a team of two horses.  The John Deere “Dain” Bailer from 1902 was a stationary baler pulled by one or two horses (depending on the condition of the hay.)  There is also the Deere One-Horse Plow from 1910.  Used to plant grain between corn rows.  Russell Steam Traction Engine 16-48 from 1915 which according to the manufacture, this was the “Boss” of steam traction engines.  This one pumped water for pasture.

There are a number of the other pieces of equipment for you to see and learn about the history of the farming industry as well as the trucking industry at this museum.

I love the idea of your museum. We have at my dad’s ranch, a great example of American ingenuity in the form of a handbuilt tractor. It;’s an orchard style tractor powered by a large Clinton pull start engine (we guess about 7 hp), vastly superior to the familiar Briggs and Stratton style engine. It’s sports dual Model ‘A’ tandom mounted transmissions for many forward and reverse speeds, along with dual brakes for the rear wheels attached to a narrowed rear end (probably about a ‘48 Ford). It’s got an updraught carborator and a disc and scoop and hydraulics. This is a full service tractor with a full-size seat. It needs reworking and restoring. I’ve used it and in it’s prime it was very strong and useful.
