Rocky Oaks Park – Thousand Oaks, California

For the devoted trail bike rider, or hiker, the Rocky Oaks Park is an ideal place to spend some time. This is a 200-acre park which was once a cattle ranch. Now it is an area that invites you to come and enjoy nature with its oak woodland, sage and chaparral covered hills that bring back the times when life wasn’t so hectic. Enjoy a break by the pond, wander through the meadow and just look out over the beauty of the area at the scenic overlooks. Take along a picnic lunch so that you can truly relax, eat and be glad to be in such a lovely spot of nature (there are also restrooms for your comfort use.)

The reserve is also a wildlife refuge in the Santa Monica Mountains which is managed by the National Park Service. The trails of Rocky Oaks are open for hiking, mountain biking and dog walking. There is an easy 1 mile long loop which begins across the small stream from the parking lot to begin the hike. The trail is not difficult to manage so you may want to take your children with you to get them started on this type of outdoor activity.

Directions: Exit the 101 Freeway at Kanan Road in Agoura Hills. Turn south and follow Kanan Road for 5.5 miles to Mulholland Highway. Turn right (west) on Mulholland, and almost immediately turn right again into Rocky Oaks Park. This is a little park but perfect for a day out in nature.
