The inland Port of Sacramento opened in 1963. It is located 79 nautical miles northeast of San Francisco. It handles 1.3 million tons of freight handled annually.

Sacramento became a ort during the gold rush of 1849. The river port prospered during the mid-1800’s helping to move men and equipment to gold fields. In the late 1920’s there were two large, luxurious paddle-wheel steamers that ran the route between Sacramento and San Francisco carrying 200 passengers each way on a daily basis. After the retirement of the Delta King is was refurbished as a restaurant and hotel which is permanently moored on the Old Sacramento waterfront.

The Port of Sacramento continues to grow only now instead of serving the needs of the gold rush it now supports agriculture and industry throughout Northern California and the world.

Currently the port facilities consist of:
Depth Alongside: 35 ft.
5 berths, each 600 ft. long
Trucking: More than 50 companies provide a versatile range of services and equipment
Railroads: 200 railcar terminal area marshaling yard. BNSF, Union Pacific, and Sierra Northern
Commodity handling capabilities: Bulk rice and bulk grain elevators, bulk commodities bagging facility, dry bulk cargo warehousing
Fugitive dust, washwater, and stormwater control systems.
