Korean War Memorials – State of California
There are a number of Korean War Memorials in the State of California dedicated to those that give their lives during the Korean War. In CathedralCity there is the Desert Memorial Parks display with acknowledgement of the 1st Battalion 7th Marines from 1950 – 1953. In Santa Nella there is a memorial which was founded by Ron Jabaut and has the names of 2,500 names listed of those that left California for the Korean War and never returned. The rectangular blocks of granite are arranged so that reading the names, remembering the sacrifice is accessible to everyone.

When leaving Santa Nella take State Rout 33 north to McCabe Rd., turn left and stay on McCabe Road to the cemetery entrance. The gates are open from 8 – 5 every day of the year. The office is open from 8 – 4:30 on weekdays and is closed for federal holidays.
The Sonora Memorial lists the 54,246 Americans who where killed in action, the MIA’s and POW’s of the war. This beautiful Memorial is located on the lawn in front of the Tuolumne County Veterans Memorial Hall. The inscription is “This Memorial is dedicated to all Korean War Veterans who served and died with courage and conviction during a conflict that produced 54,246 U.S. casualties and 8,177 MIAs.” Also placed on the left front is a bronze medallion of the crest of each branch of our armed forces, placed on the right side are bronze plaques indicating the major battles of the war. The memorial itself us black and gray marble. On the back of the Memorial are inscribed the names of TuolumneCounty service men listed as KIA, MIA and POWs. Also inscribed are the names of county veterans that served in the Korean War, the Tuolumne County Chapter is the only chapter in the US that has less than 50 members and yet built and dedicated this Memorial.
Santa Maria has a plaque in the memorial plaza in Santa Maria. It is in honor of the Santa Maria Valley Veterans who gave their lives during the Korean War. It lists those service men who died for their country from the Santa MariaValley.
Nevada City has a Bronze memorial plaque attached to a granite boulder which sits on a concrete base that is bordered by natural field stone. It is located in Grove of Pioneer Park
