If you are looking for a fabulous area to ski or participate in all of the other winter sports then this area of California is perfect for you.  The area gets over 400 inches of annual snowfall to get this epic terrain in perfect conditions for all the sports.  The area has a 6 month long winter with golf courses open in the month of April!

There are 150 trails there are perfect trails for every level of service.  Some come to enjoy the 3,100 feet of vertical.  With 3,500 acres of land to explore and ski it really doesn’t matter how many people come to ski, you won’t be crowded out.  The elevation of the area is 11,053 feet so be prepared for the change in oxygen, it affects some people. There are 29 lifts (10 express quads) to take you to the top.

The area has 300 days of sun amidst the great white snowfall so bring your sunscreen!  Winter here usually runs from November until June, sometimes longer.

The Lakes Basin area offers serene tree-lined trails to do your Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.  There are 19 miles of freshly groomed skating, classic and snowshoe trails for you to use.  The sounds of the winter birds and your own locomotion are about the only sounds you will hear.  The peace of this area will give you a serenity that you will want to come back and experience time after time.

You can go snowmobiling on the mountains too.  There are experienced guides available for you to go with to prevent your getting lost on the thousands of acres of trails.  You can also line up an outfitter for first-timers and seasoned riders, a smart thing to do in this area of constant exploration on your snowmobile.

The view from the Scenic Gondola is perhaps the most stunning view you can have of California!  At the top of the ride is the Sierra Interpretive Center and the Top of the Sierra Cafe.  All this at 11,053 feet!

If you truly want to try something fun why not take a dog sled ride?  Have you ever been on one?  It’s like nothing you have ever experienced before.  If that doesn’t fill your total need for fun then how about going with the kids down the hills on a snow tube?  Not only will your kids (or someone else’s kids that you agree to "entertain on the hills") have a blast but so will the kid in you!

The Race Department has hosted quality racing events since 1974, ranging from the FIS World Cup and the U.S. Alpine Championships to the J 4/5 Championships as well as many events for ski clubs and racing leagues. We are also the home of the Mammoth Masters Team.
