Numerous tribal groups of Native Americans inhabited the area, following their way of life along the coast and inland too.

Trivia and Facts - California
California’s Mount Whitney measures as the highest peak in the lower 48 states. Its most famous climb is Mount Whitney Trail to the 14,495 feet summit. Wilderness permits are required.
In 1925 a giant sequoia located in California’s Kings Canyon National Park was named the nation’s national Christmas tree. The tree is over 300 feet in height.

The town of Placerville, California sprang up along with many others during the 1848 California Gold Rush. With the influx of so many gold seekers, there also came preachers and ministers, who felt the need to spread the word to the rough residents of the area. One of the buildings that have been restored is the M.E. Historic Church in Placerville.

Sierra Nevada House - Coloma California
The Sierra Nevada House has its roots in the early gold mining days, when John Sutter first built a small fort where the Sacramento and American Rivers meet. The year was 1839, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains were considered a wild area, and the home of the Miwok and Maidu Indians. John Sutter was a Swiss pioneer who would change the history of the area with his discovery of gold.
